Sometime accountants and bookkeepers are reluctant to find and use easier and more efficient ways of recording transactions if the results do not produce financial statements that follow proper statement presentation. This can result in more time spent recording transaction than necessary and possibly delaying delivery of financial information. My philosophy is to look for easier and more efficient methods and address proper statement presentation at the year end when the annual statements are prepared.

Below are some bookkeeping tips I use. As time permits, I will try to expand the list. They are generally based on QuickBooks, however you may find them helpful regardless of the accounting software you are currently using. They are presented in a PDF format only and will open in a separate window.

Comments, suggestions and additional tips are welcome.

  1. Recording  Debit Card transactions.
  2. Tracking GST (applies specifically to QuickBooks)
